Short Heath Nursery
At Short Heath Nursery we plan activities and experiences that help
children make the best progress in their development and learning. To
do this we recognise that the children will have a wide range of
experiences, skills and interests before they join us. We have a new
parent/carers’ evening in the summer term before the children start
Nursery giving the opportunity for you - parents/carers - to discuss
your child with staff and for you to see around the setting and find
out about the opportunities it provides. This is then followed up by an
Open Day in June when you and your child are invited to spend time
exploring the Nursery and talking to staff in a relaxed and friendly
atmosphere. Further opportunities to talk and/or see around the Nursery
can be arranged on an individual basis as needed.
Independent LearnersThe children are encouraged to be independent (e.g.
dressing themselves, taking care of hygiene needs) and to access
equipment and resources for themselves where appropriate as well as
help to tidy away. We expect them to take responsibility for their
environment and foster care for each other and the things around them.
At times they are given the choice about where they learn – inside or outside, whom they are with, and what they use. Sufficient time is given so that they can develop ideas and work in-depth.
